Who's involved?

From the start of the project in 2017 Aylesbury Garden Town was a partnership project between Aylesbury Vale District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council, alongside two Local Enterprise Partnerships (Bucks LEP and South East Midlands LEP) and Homes England. 

The Masterplan work began in 2018 and is a great example of how teams from across both Council’s came together prior to becoming Buckinghamshire Council. Workshops held between both authorities, and with other partners and stakeholders, were crucial to producing the 2050 Vision for Aylesbury, as well as the final Masterplan and its key projects.

The transition into unitary, and approval of the document at Council, is a testament to that joined up thinking, the work of all involved and willingness to work together to produce the best outcome. 

The emerging Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan sets out what becoming a Garden Town will mean and how the new status will be delivered. In order to achieve this vision, it’s vital that all the key partners work together to make the best use of the government funding we’ve received. 

Aylesbury Garden Town (AGT) Strategic Oversight Board

A new governance structure for the Aylesbury Garden Town Strategic Oversight Board was approved by Buckinghamshire Council on 15 July 2020. The Board has responsibility and authority for the overall delivery of the Aylesbury Garden Town project.

The new structure reflects the new Unitary Authority and provides for a greater focus on Programme delivery, with increased community involvement, to reflect the important role of Town and Parish Councils in delivering services and the establishment of the Community Boards.

It includes representatives from all our partner organisations; Buckinghamshire Council, Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership, NEP, NHS Health, Aylesbury Community Board, Aylesbury Town Council, Parish Councils and Homes England, a government body that helps deliver new homes across the country.

 

AGT Strategic Oversight Board

Aylesbury Garden Town Programme Delivery Team

The Programme Delivery Team meets on a monthly basis and includes specialist officers from all the partner organisations. Their expertise brings both support and direction to the project.

The Garden Town Project Team

The Garden Town Team oversees the project on a daily basis. It is a small team led by the Programme Lead with officers leading on community, key projects, communications and governance. External specialists are co-opted onto the team to provide expertise in specific areas.  

Aylesbury Garden Town Chairman

Councillor Steve Bowles, Cabinet Member for Town Centre Regeneration, is the AGT Chairman. Steve has been with the project since it started in 2017 supporting as the Garden Town Champion, helping to promote the project across the councils and within the local community.

Aylesbury Garden Town Cycling Champion

Councillor Clive Harriss, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure is our Garden Town Cycling Champion. Cycling, as a sustainable method of transport, is a Garden Town priority and we will be improving cycle links connecting villages that surround the tow. We are determined to create great traffic-free, safe routes to help more people choose a more sustainable way to travel and to get active.
